Special Needs Assisting with Disability Studies - 5M1761 - Tubbercurry Campus

This programme equips learners with the knowledge, skills, and competence to support individuals with disabilities in achieving their potential and living self directed, fulfilling lives. Learners develop the ability to work both independently and under supervision, applying best practice across a range of care and support settings. The programme also provides a solid foundation for progression to further or higher education and training in the health, social care, and community sectors.

  • Applicants whose first language is not English will require a competency as stated in our admissions policy
  • This course requires participants to be Garda vetted. Continued participation on the course and work placement is dependent on the successful completion of this process

Learners who undertake this course will acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies to apply for employment positions in a range care and education settings to include:

  • SNA in Primary and Secondary Education
  • PA in Further and Higher Education
  • Intellectual Disability care settings

Progression

This qualification also provides a strong platform for progression to further or higher education in disability studies, social care, psychology, community development, education, and related fields.
Graduates may gain entry to Third Level Institutes and Colleges through the QQI Higher Education Links Scheme

Duration

This is a full-time one-year course and runs from September to May.
