Hairdressing with Barbering & Junior Trades

This is a one-year full time QQI Level 5 and Junior Trade course, with intensive training in the skills and education required for the Barbering and hairstyling Industry. Students will have the option to progress into a second year to achieve higher qualifications in Senior Trade and International City and Guilds Diploma. Our highly qualified team with years of industry experience, provide training in the fully equipped college hairdressing salon. Our work experience programme offers students the opportunity to further develop their skills in selected and approved Barbers and Hairdressing salons in Ireland and abroad.

This Course is designed to;

Equip the learner with the knowledge and practical skills required for a career as a trainee Barber & hairstylist.
It is the perfect induction to the basics in hairdressing and can open a world of opportunities.

Entry Requirements

  • Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied, or equivalent

  • Interview

  • Mature applicants welcome

Career Opportunities

Sligo College of FET is a major provider of courses for the Hairdressing & Barbering Industry, including training for apprentices for Junior Trade and City & Guilds international diploma (Senior Trades). Upon successful completion of this course, students may gain placement as a Senior First Year Apprentice in a high-profile hairdressing salon or progress to Year 2 Hairdressing in Sligo College of FET.

There are no fees to study this course, however, students will have to purchase some additional items when undertaking this course such as;

  • Tunic (x2)

  • Details of cost & supplier will be provided during interview and induction.
