Hairdressing Year 2 - (City & Guilds and Senior Trades)  

This Course is Designed to

Further advance into the world of hairdressing. Our award winning hairdressing department will guide you through City & Guilds International Diploma in women's hairdressing whilst also offering the Department of Educations' Senior Trades qualification. This course also incorporates open salon and competition work. Learners will be expected to attain the highest standards in practical day to day procedures in the hairdressing field. Learners will study and practice all areas of hairdressing including consulting, hair and scalp diagnosing, blow-dry and setting, cutting, colouring, styling and dressing hair for clients, as well as hair science and theory.

Entry Requirements

  • Interview
  • FETAC/QQI Level 5 Certificate in Hairdressing (5M3351)
  • Mature applicants welcome.
  • Interviews held in March, May and September each year.
  • Places are open to qualified hairdressers who require formal written qualifications. 
  • Applicants whose first language is not English will require a competency as stated in our admissions policy here

Certification

  • QQI Component Cert (for those not achieving full award in Year 1)
  • City & Guilds International Diploma in women’s hairdressing (City & Guilds 3002-21)
  • DES Senior Trades Certificate - (Level 6)

Career Opportunities

Successful completion of the City & Guilds Diploma and Senior Trades Certificate could lead you to a career as a hair stylist, colour or perm technician, or to work as a sales representative for hairdressing products, In addition students may progress to further studies in the field.

Fees

There are no fees to study this course, however, students will have to purchase some additional items when undertaking this course such as;

  • Tunic (x2)
  • Professional Hairdressing Kit

Students who have completed Year 1 Hairdressing in SligoCFE, will not be required to buy the equipment above.

  • At registration students will be requested to complete documentation in order to successfully pass a garda vetting process before they commence work experience.

Duration

This is a full-time one-year course and runs from September to May . The course runs three days a week (Mon to Wed) and students are encouraged to have a salon to work two days a week in to supplement their learning.
