Fougères in Brittany is a beautiful town that is home to the Château de Fougères, the largest medieval fortress in Europe. Situated on both sides of the River Nançon, the City of Art and History boasts a magnificent architectural heritage. Very charming, the old town provides a wonderful setting for walkers. First of all, with its feudal castle flanked by towers and ramparts. A remarkable example of the medieval time... But also with the Marchix square and its beautiful old timber-framed houses, the romantic walk along the river and its lavoir (communal laundry washing place), the pleasant public garden and its magnificent view of the fortress and the medieval district. A delight for the eyes! In front of the castle, the Saint-Sulpice church of Flamboyant Gothic style contains old granite altarpieces.
